How to make the college application process understandable

I thought I was the only kid who was confused by the college admissions process. I didn’t even know when to apply let alone how important the different pieces of my application were. But I thought it was because I was coming from a large, public high school where only a small percentage of students went on to four-year colleges. I had to just figure it out on my own.

Fast-forward 20 years and the process of applying to college is far more selective now than it was when I applied. It doesn’t matter where you come from, public or private high school, or how many resources you have, it's one of the most humbling experiences of your life. When there's little transparency about the college admissions process, good kids don’t always see the results they are hoping for. That's why I’ve spent my career trying to make sure that students have all the information they need.

One thing is clear—most students and families move through the college search without a strong foundation to make sound decisions. Bad information is everywhere you turn during the college application process, and sometimes that bad information costs thousands of dollars.

Nothing makes a girl from New Jersey more frustrated than an uneven playing field. But no matter how many presentations I gave as a Dean of Admissions and no matter how many individual conversations I had, there always was a limit to the number of people I could reach.

Admissions Revolution is going to change that forever.

Admissions Revolution will provide videos on every important topic related to college admissions and financial aid. It will give students and their families powerful, honest insights to help them effectively navigate the complex college application process.

ABOUT ME

You may be wondering how the information I'm sharing is different. Well, I’ve seen it all. I’ve been:

  • an entry-level admissions officer
  • second-in-command in an Ivy League admissions office
  • Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid at an elite small liberal arts college
  • and the head of College Counseling at one of the best high schools in the country

What keeps me focused and grounded is remembering how lost I felt when I applied to college. This motivates me every day to do something with the knowledge I have—to change the admissions process—and to give students what they need to achieve their greatest success.

If you would like to know more about my background, you can read my full bio here.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Admissions Revolution provides students with the information they need to help them succeed as they embark on this life-changing journey. Our videos offer transferable and immediate knowledge for students.

In each video, I explain exactly what you need to know—from the strategies being used by colleges, to the ways students can navigate through the complexities, to the secrets that have never seen the light of day. Each video also has a corresponding guide that provides an in-depth summary...and that' where I delve more deeply into the details (and secrets) of the topic being discussed.

Why does this matter? Because, college equals access. College opens doors. It did for me, and it will for you. Admissions Revolution shifts the power and puts the student in the driver’s seat for the first time ever. That’s the way it should be. And that’s the way it will be from here on in.
